渡辺一城 / 写真家

1978年新潟県燕市生まれ。東京工芸大学芸術学部写真学科卒業。

大学4年時、細江英公教授の研究室に所属し写真を学ぶ。

在学中、養豚農家との出会いをきっかけに豚の撮影を始める。祖父母が精肉店を営んでいたこともあり、豚は幼い頃から身近な存在であった。

同時期より、実家の米づくりや故郷の田園風景の記録も始める。以来、食や農を通して命の循環を見つめることを制作の軸としている。

2013年、B GALLERY（東京）にて個展「豚」を開催。同作品の写真集「人」を刊行。

2023年、「HARVEST」で London Photography AwardsのFine Art Photography部門にてCategory Winner of the Yearを受賞。

現在は東京を拠点に広告、雑誌、Web等の撮影を手がける一方で、日本とスペインを往還しながら作品制作を続けている。

Kazuki Watanave / Photographer

Born in 1978 in Tsubame City, Niigata, Japan. Graduated from Tokyo Polytechnic University, Faculty of Arts, Department of Photography.

In his fourth year of university, he studied in the laboratory of Professor Eikoh Hosoe.

While still a university student, an encounter with a pig farmer led him to begin photographing pigs. His grandparents ran a butcher shop, and pigs had been part of his life since childhood.

Around the same time, he also began documenting his family’s rice cultivation and the rice fields of his hometown. Since then, his practice has focused on observing the cycle of life through food and agriculture.

In 2013, he held the solo exhibition “Buta” at B GALLERY (Tokyo) and published the accompanying photobook “HITO.”

In 2023, his series “HARVEST” was awarded Category Winner of the Year in the Fine Art Photography category at the London Photography Awards.

Currently based in Tokyo, he works across advertising, editorial, and web photography, while continuing his artistic practice between Japan and Spain.

渡辺一城写真集「人」

大学一年の時から15年に渡り、「豚」を撮り続けて完成した渡辺一城の最初の写真集。写真集には養豚場や食肉センターでの記録と共に、作品の背景に存在している渡辺の家族の写真が収録されている。また、巻末には撮影で長年お世話になった(有)臼井農産・代表取締役の臼井欽一氏、高崎食肉センター・元理事長の小櫻憲治氏の「豚と食肉」にまつわる話も収録。

Kazuki Watanave Photobook “HITO”

HITO is the first photobook by Kazuki Watanave, completed after fifteen years of photographing pigs, a project that began during his first year at university. The book includes photographs taken at pig farms and meat processing centers, along with images of Watanave’s own family, which form part of the background of the work. At the end of the book, essays on “pigs and meat” by Mr. Kinichi Usui, President of Usui Nosan Co., Ltd., who supported Watanave during his years of photographing pigs, and Mr. Kenji Kozakura, former President of Takasaki Meat Center, are included.
